One thing any inbound marketer will tell you is to write blogs on a variety of topics related to your business, and also, write often. This second part (writing often) is surprisingly what most businesses cite as their biggest problem when it comes to their blogging and marketing schemes.

The reason that inbound marketing preaches consistent blogging, is because blogs generate traffic to your website. The more blogs you write, the greater the chance that their Google searches land on your blog. That means more people visiting your site, giving you more chances to convert leads.

Employee’s often state that it is hard to keep up with a consistent blogging schedule because they barely have enough time to complete all of their weekly tasks that their company asks of them, let alone having to write one or two blogs on top of those tasks. If this sounds like you, and you are struggling to find time to blog, then read on because I will go into detail about how I balance my time as a full time college student and a writing multiple blogs a week as a marketing intern, along with some strategies to help keep a consistent blogging schedule.

What do I do?

It is hard to consistently blog when there are million other things you have to do. For me, complications that come into play with my blogging time include: class itself, homework outside of class, group meetings, study time for exams, personal life, and so many more. The life of a college student is a busy one, and adding an internship onto that life makes it that much harder.

Below are some strategies you can use to help keep up with a consistent blogging schedule:

  • Stick to the same time, every week. Pick a day or a couple days, and then slate out some free time you have in those days and STICK to that schedule. Having a set routine forces you to get in a week-to-week rhythm that will help you get into a regular blogging schedule.

  • Constantly think of things to blog about. Actively brainstorm and keep an eye open for your next topic that will be the perfect blog post. If you already have an idea for what you want to blog about, it makes starting that blog that much easier.

  • Speaking of brainstorming, use others to help you brainstorm blog ideas. Co-workers, your boss, your family, or your friends, can all help inspire you to think of a great blog topic. Even looking on the Internet for other blogs can help you get an idea.

  • Think of blogging as an investment. If you write a blog today, then that means tomorrow you might gain 2 new leads, or maybe after a week that number will double to 4 leads! Who knows how successful a blog will be, but knowing in your mind that writing this blog now will benefit your company in the future can help you stick to a regular blogging schedule.

  • When you feel like you are tired of writing that same old standard blog, try some new form of content. A video, interactive page, webinar, slide show presentation, diagrams, or flow charts are all examples of different content forms.

  • Going back to my first strategy, make writing a HABIT! If you make blog writing a habit in your mind then it just becomes another weekly task, just like brushing your teeth, or going to the bar with your buddies. Make it something you want to do.

Now I know I went through a lot of different strategies to successfully keeping up with a blogging schedule, but these are some of the things that I do to avoid getting off track.

Blogging takes work.

There are going to be weeks where you tell yourself that you are too busy, too annoyed, or too tired to write those weekly blog posts. But you can use these strategies to your advantage, and consistently produce valuable content then you will see your web site traffic increase, which increases the chances for lead conversions.

Remember – the more you blog, the more traffic you’ll generate. In turn, this will generate more leads for your company.

Blogging = visitors to site = more leads.

The challenge most marketers face is developing blog content that educates but doesn’t sell. Blogs should be written in an education, brand-neutral style. This guide is the first step that we use in our blog training to explain how to write an educational blog post. Use it to craft a better business blog post.
